Loaders: Wheel & Track Operation Guide

Loader Types

Wheel Loaders: Fast, good on roads, work well on solid ground. Most common on jobsites.

Track Loaders: Better traction on soft ground, tracks distribute weight. Slower but stronger in mud/snow.

Main Components

• Boom: Main arm, provides lift height
• Bucket: Digs and carries (sizes: 1.5cy to 4cy typical)
• Hydraulic system: Powers all movements
• Wheels/Tracks: Traction and mobility
• Cab: Fully enclosed, air-conditioned, good visibility

Loading Operations

Stockpile loading: Dig into pile, scoop full bucket, raise and dump into truck. 30-60 buckets per hour typical.

Truck spotting: Position loader to dump material into truck bed. Requires coordination with truck driver.

Material handling: Move material across site, stockpile, spread.

Production Rates

Safety on Loaders

• Dump height: Keep clear of falling material from raised bucket.
• Visibility: Good cab visibility, but watch around sides and rear.
• Bucket work: Don't swing fully loaded bucket over people.
• Truck spotting: Use spotters, clear hand signals, beepers.
